Alternative Methods For Overcoming Alcohol Abuse

Hypnosis is a strong tool to overcome various addictions including alcoholism. There are many people that want to know how to stop drinking but don’t want to deal with wasting time in an Alcoholics Anonymous 12-step program. The hypnotist or therapist will do an intake and get the history of the client. People who are receptive to hypnotherapy usually get good results and can tell within three, four or five sessions how well it is working for them. The reason this method is effective is that it helps the client to remember and deal with issues that cause them to drink.

The holistic approach to treating alcoholism uses various detoxification programs. Psychological evaluation is taken and therapy is part of the healing process. When a client is ready then he goes into the holistic segment of the treatment. He is ready when he is stable and he feels comfortable with moving into the next phase of treatment. The holistic approach includes nutrition, steam baths, whirlpool massage, acupuncture, or other natural treatments that cleanse the body of toxins. Some of these programs have their own nutritionist that gives lectures to educate the clients.

Other activities included in this approach are: exercise, recreation, and biofeedback. Help with getting a job, education, problem solving and treatment and therapy in the evening and on weekends once the individual is working.

The other therapies used in the holistic approach to treating alcoholism vary, but stress management, guided imagery, yoga, psychotherapy for individuals, and tai chi are some of the methods employed. Several of the therapies used relieve stress, and teach the individual to be more aware of their body and its functions. Some of them have a spiritual aspect. The holistic method is a very well rounded way to treat alcohol abuse.
